About APAFP

History

From the first academic symposia in 2017, through establishment in Macau in 2021, to the present CNMI nonprofit corporation in Saipan.

2017–2021

Academic beginnings in Shanghai

The association's activities began with academic meetings rather than with a legal entity. Beginning in 2017, five editions of the Shanghai Forum for Fertility Preservation and associated APAFP meetings were held in Shanghai, China. The fourth forum was held jointly with a symposium and workshop of the Asian Society for Fertility Preservation (ASFP), and the series included hands-on training workshops on the cryopreservation of gametes, embryos and ovarian tissue.

These gatherings brought together specialists in fertility preservation and reproductive medicine from across the Asia-Pacific region and laid the foundation for a formal association.

2021–2022

Establishment in Macau

The association's founding conference was held during the 5th Shanghai Forum for Fertility Preservation on October 22–24, 2021. Shortly afterwards the association was formally established in Macau, China, as the Asia-Pacific (Macau) Association for Fertility Preservation, under registration no. 10763, first gazetted on November 10, 2021. A founding Executive Committee led the association through this period; its members are recorded under Former Leadership.

Registration certificates were issued by the Macau Identification Services Bureau in January 2022. In December 2022 the association held its first online conference, connecting fertility-preservation specialists across the region.

2025

Transition to Saipan and CNMI incorporation

In 2025 the association's office transitioned from Macau to Saipan, in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), USA. On June 3, 2025, Asia-Pacific Association of Fertility Preservation Inc. was incorporated as a non-profit corporation under CNMI law, with its registered office on the Third Floor of the Bank of Guam Building in Garapan, Saipan.

The 2021 Macau-registered association and the 2025 CNMI corporation are distinct registrations: the association's office and activities transitioned to Saipan, and the current CNMI nonprofit was incorporated in 2025. Details of the current entity are set out under Legal Status.

2026
